Sea Thrift, Sea Pink
The grasslike leaves of these summer-blooming perennials form spreading tufts of foliage. The sturdy flowering stems end in ball-shaped clusters of tiny flowers. Good in rock gardens, edging and borders.

A hardy evergreen perennial that likes well drained soil. They can be found in coastal areas and mountain regions of Europe, Turkey, North Africa and the western coast of North and South America.
Although not as common in our region as they are in other coastal regions of the Northern hemisphere, sea thrift is found on our bluffs, sandy spits and coastal beaches.

The popular Sea Thrift cultivar "Dusseldorf Pride" has a brighter magenta or wine-red bloom than the regular species Armeria maritima on which the tight balls of tiny blooms are a paler pink.
