These deciduous trees or shrubs are closely allied to Acacia. Their graceful, feathery foliage and clusters of powderpuff-like flowers make them a lovely lawn or patio tree in warmer climates.

3-6" wide clusters of silky pink blooms are borne in summer. This is a very fast growing tree creating a broad rounded canopy with the fine soft textured fern-like foliage.

General Notes
Fast growing, but messy because of fruit and flower litter. Caterpillars are more of a problem back east than in California. Shade tree tolerant of a variety of conditions.

Silk tree makes a beautiful lawn accent. The graceful, leafy canopy permits enough light for grass to grow right up to the trunk.

Foliage: The shiny, bright green, alternate palmately compound leaves of the Malabar chestnut grow to about 12 inches long and are quickly shed. They are larger and showier than Chorisia speciosa, the popular floss-silk tree.
