From mid-June to July, the stems are topped with small, but exquisite slipper flowers...white sepals at the top with a pink slipper attached below. In time, Cypripedium reginae will develop into quite a large clump.

The names "Pocketbook Flower" & "Purse Flowers" are pretty much self-explanatory, as also the alternative name "Slipper Flower." Inside each puffy pocketbook is a dusting of red freckles.

Pocketbook Plant gets its name from the puffy, brightly colored flowers that look like pouches or slippers. Other common names for this unusual-looking plant are Slipper Flower and Slipperwort.
