Plant Type: This is a herbaceous plant, it is a perennial which can reach 61cm in height (24inches).
Leaves: This plant has basal leaves only.

Spider lily compost consists of 2 parts peat moss to 1 part loam to 1 part sand with one-half cup of dried cow manure added to each gallon of potting mix. Keep moist and feed monthly with a balanced houseplant fertilizer from spring to fall.

This perennial produces umbels of 4-6 small, funnel shaped, undulating, rose-red or dark red flowers 1 1/2-2 inches long in umbels of 4-6. Erect strape-shaped leaves of dark green bear following the flowers.

Location
Native to China and Japan; now widely naturalized in the southeastern United States.

Long Flowered Spider Lily: is a rare herb, mostly found growing wild. Old books (Amaryllidaceae by William Herbert) mention that the only collected specimen was lost at Calcutta, and the bulbs were never brought to Europe for growing.

Hymenocallis sp. Spider lily. Thrive in Bermuda, often in salt-exposed locations. Different types are Hymenocallis declinata, native of the West Indies, common in Bermuda and Hymenocallis littoralis, native of tropical America.

Description:
Red Spider Lily is naturalized and extensively planted in the Deep South, and was mistakenly distributed for years as Nerine sarniensis.
