Spotted Wintergreen (Striped Wintergreen, Spotted Pipsissewa) Chimaphila maculata Spotted wintergreen is immediately recognizable by its leaves with a broad light-green stripe down the middle. The leaves are evergreen.
maculata, or Spotted Wintergreen, is very similar, but the leaves are a deep olivegreen colour with greenish-white veins. When fresh and bruised they have a peculiar odour, which is lost on drying; taste pleasantly bitter, astringent and sweetish.
