Acorn Squash
One of the easiest vegetables to grow, Squash are rich in vitamin C and are delicious when steamed, stuffed, grilled, baked or stir-fried. These sun lovers cannot survive frost, but do well in most other climates and soils.

Turban Squash
For this particular winter squash, identification is easy. With its unusual shape and bright coloration, the turban squash is hard to miss. The flesh is dry, dense and slightly nutty.

We loved watching these fun fruits mature in Burpee's summer vegetable plot at Fordhook Farm. Loads of bright, tri-colored squash, only 1-2 lbs.

Butternut squash is a selection of Cucurbita moschata, one of four New World species in the pumpkin - squash - gourd complex that have been cultivated by Native Americans for at least 6,000 years.

'Butternut' Winter Squash has been bred for early-maturation in cool climes. Its flesh is firm and sweet. They will tolerate partial sun and require high organic matter and well drained soil. Go easy on the fertilizer as you will end up with all vine.

Plants of the Gourd or Squash Family
The Gourd family is as easy to recognize as pumpkins and squash. Look closely at one of these flowers and you will know the family. Male and female parts are borne on separate funnel-shaped flowers.
