Trachelospermum jasminoides, or Star Jasmine, is native to China. It is an evergreen, woody vine that will reach about 30 feet (10 meters). The ovate leaves are about 4 inches (10 cm) long.

Star Jasmine
I am concerned about my Star Jasmine plant. After all the cold weather, the leaves have started to turn a brownish/red color (like fall leaves). Otherwise it looks healthy.

Asian Star Jasmine
Native to Japan and Korea, Asian star jasmine (T. asiaticum) is an excellent, tough, fast-growing groundcover in South Carolina. It has smaller, darker leaves and smaller, yellowish white flowers than the confederate jasmine.

Trachelospermum jasminoides
A very fragrant evergreen climber producing clusters of 1" white flowers in mid-summer. Dark green glossy foliage adorns this twining climber.

Here yellow star jasmine is employed as a groundcover on a berm that separates roads and parking lots from pedestrian areas. The vine protects the berm from erosion and helps dampen road noise.

General Information: Confederate jasmine or Star jasmine is an evergreen vine or groundcover, irregular, climing of medium texture. Growth rate is fairly rapid. Native of Eastern India to China and Japan.

Another has been planted in 2006 in the circular planter at the head of Lasuen Mall near Braun Music; the ground cover is star jasmine.
