This summersweet is a sport of C. alnifolia 'Pink Spires'. Its fragrant, bottlebrush flowers are a darker pink; they attract butterflies, bees, and other insects in late summer and early fall.
By mid November the Summersweet's green
& yellow leaves are mottled & spotty with red.
It will keep its leaves until a week or so into winter when
most of deciduous shrubs nearby are bare,
but then it is late to releaf in spring.
