The Tacca genus of plants is mostly native to Asia, and the plants are considered collector's items for their unusual flowers. During the growth phase, they feature upright, vertically growing leaves that are attractive but unremarkable.

Taccaceae are herbs with long-petiolate leaves and a scapose, umbellate inflorescence in which long, filiform bracts are mixed in with the flowers. These are medium-sized, dark purple, and with inferior ovaries; the ovary placentation is parietal.

TAHITI ARROWROOT is from Tacca oceanica (pinnatifida). It is a favourite article of diet in the tropics, being found in the Sandwich and South Sea Islands, and is said to be the best arrowroot for dysentery.
