Tea is an infusion made by steeping processed leaves, buds, or twigs of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, in hot water for a few minutes.
Tea grows well in soil with a pH of 4.5 to 7; if the plant is to be grown in a pot, check the pH of the potting mixture. The tea plant doesn't require a lot of fertilizer, but benefits from an acidic mulch such as pine needles.
The tea is very sustaining, and sometimes it is the only refreshment carried for a journey of several days.
The odour is not very agreeable, but is soon unnoticed. The taste is rather bitter.
Mormon Tea (Ephedra boelckei)
Mormon Tea is native to China where it is commonly used as a herb. These evergreen shrubs make nice groundcovers for shrub borders or rock gardens.
Tea was made from leaves of the entire genus from the American War of Independence to present. They make the best tea if collected prior to flowering. They contain tannin, gallic acid, wax, resin and salts.
Labrador tea has distinctive leaves -- the leaf edges are rolled under, and the underside is covered with a thick layer of tan fuzz.

The best way to prepare a tea infusion
Heat the water to just below boiling.
Put one heaped teaspoon of medicinal tea per cup in a porcelain- or glass pot. Pour the hot (not boiling!) water over the leaves.
The flowers can be stuffed, made into fritters or made into tea and the buds pickled. Young shoots (WARNING-see below) of Hibiscus also are edible, raw or cooked and are pleasantly acid.
