William Jackson Hooker named this plant Tellima parviflora in 1832 from a specimen that David Douglas collected in Washington in 1825. Thomas Nuttall renamed it Lithophragma parviflorum in 1840.

Tiarella is in the same family as and somewhat suggestive of Heuchera, Tellima and Mitella. Tiarella is sometimes commonly called false miterwort because of its similarity to Mitella (miterwort). Kemper Center for Home Gardening ...

Introgressive hybridisation in the Heuchera clade is extensive and there are various combinations of chloroplast and nuclear genomes, for example, the chloroplast genome of Tellima is also found in Mitella (e.g. Soltis et al. 1993).

Liriope muscari - evergreen, with violet-mauve flowers in early to late autumn. Height 30cm (12in), spread 45cm (18in)
Tellima grandiflora - semi-evergreen, with greenish white flowers from spring to mid-summer. Self-seeds freely.
