Adaptation: The tropical guava is best adapted to the warm climate of Florida and Hawaii, although it can be grown in coastal Southern California, and with some protection, selected areas north to Mendocino County.

Tropical Guava, Guajava
This American fruit is well known throughout the tropics. Usually, it is a low growing tree 6 to 25 feet high. The smooth, reddish brown bark peels off in large flakes to reveal a smooth grey inner bark.

The fruit (a fleshy berry with many hard seeds) of the common tropical guava (P. guajava) is shaped like an apple or a pear and has white, pink, or red flesh (depending on the variety) with a sweet, musky flavor and, usually, a yellow rind.
