This tulip has flowers of crimson with brown insides and produces 2-7 spear shaped, smooth pale green leaves, to 8 inches in length, sometimes edged in reddish purple.

Tulip seeds are said to have been introduced into Europe in 1554 from Turkey, where they were possibly first cultivated. In the Netherlands in the 17th cent.

Tulipa 'Charmeur' features leaves with curled yellow edges and 18-inch-tall white-rimmed dark rosy blooms. The color combination may be a bit garish for some, but it will certainly brighten up container plantings in a drab doorway.

Tulip poplars are also called Tuliptree, or in the timber trade, yellow poplar. The common name comes from the tulip shaped flowers borne at the ends of branches in late May.

The tulips are planted just above my pond. When I look out at them from my window, the tulips appear to beckon me to come take a closer look. T. 'Marilyn' just might be my favorite of all the lily flowering tulips.

Description
Liriodendron tulipifera is a deciduous tree that is in the same family of plants as the Magnolias.

Full sun to part shade, well-drained moist soil, ample growing room; does well in bright woods. Sow seed in fall, surface sown in protected location, needs light to germinate; germination erratic.

Originally from Equatorial Africa, the evergreen African tulip tree can be found abundantly in Suriname; it is a spectacular flowering tree.
It is a fast-growing, about 80' tall, ever-blooming tree. The wood is known to be very soft and brittle.

Tulips
Tulips can usually only be counted on for a single season of color in South Carolina. They are treated like annual flowers, dug and discarded after they have bloomed in the spring.

TULIP ORCHID. The tulip orchids may be epiphytic, but they are more commonly grown as terrestrials, in a mix suitable for Cymbidium. The pseudo bulbs are topped by three large (2 1/2-foot by 1-foot), thin, heavily ribbed leaves.

Thus, in the tulip, crocus, lily, speak of the parts of the perianth, in place of corolla, although in these plants there is an outer whorl (calyx), of three parts, and an inner (corolla), of a similar number, alternating with them.

The bulbs or corms of tulip, daffodil, jonquil, narcissus, amaryllis, and iris produce primarily gastrointestinal signs (vomiting and diarrhea) after consumption, and are not as toxic as lily of the valley.

Tulips are well-known for requiring a cold treatment (also known as vernalization; ‘vernal’ literally means ‘springlike’. To vernalize means to make springlike).

It is effective when interplanted with bulbs, especially tulips, and in woodlands. It prefers full sun to part shade and a rich, moist soil. Blue and pink flowers may appear on the same plant.
