Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae which is native to tropical South Asia. It needs temperatures between 20 and 30 deg. C. and a considerable amount of annual rainfall to thrive.

Curcuma longa (Turmeric) (syn. Curcuma domestica) is one of the toughest Curcuma that we grow. The 3' tall pleated green leaves are adorned, starting in early September, with colorful pinecones that are nestled among the leaves.

Today i would like to comment on a Meiteilon term used in of a certain plant in the 'Medicinal Plants' section, the Meiteilon term for Wild turmeric is given as 'yaingang'.

A frequent substitute for the expressed oil is said to be lard-coloured with chlorophyll or indigo and turmeric, scented with the berries. Boiling alcohol, which dissolves the true oil, will detect this.
