I love this little native perennial, Vancouveria hexandra, a close relative of epimediums. In my garden, it slowly creeps around its allotted space by underground rhizomes. Where it shares a bed, it tickles and nudges a tiarella species (Foam flower).

This west coast native Vancouveria hexandra is growing against a cliff wall & behind a hawthorne tree in quite a shady location. Though categorized deciduous, it is often nearly evergreen.

my arms snugly around this group that we have since embraced. Epimediums are members of the barberry family which includes such other familiar garden plants as mahonia (lumped by some into berberis), berberis, podophyllum (mayapple), and vancouveria.
