Six years ago, we began a new border and chose threadleaf blue star as a medium-height ground cover, to be mixed with hyssop-leaved thoroughwort (Eupatorium hyssopifolium), Sedum 'Matrona', and Viburnum nudum 'Winterthur'.

interweaving the darker blue of Anchusa azura 'Loddon Royalist' through the roses, all against a backdrop of Mexican orange blossom (Choisya ternata) with its glossy evergreen foliage. In colder climates, substitute smooth witherod (Viburnum nudum).
