Vitex agnus-castus 'Montrose Purple' is a large deciduous shrub or small tree when limbed up with aromatic, palmately compound leaves. From early summer to frost the Texas Lilac is covered with 8-12" long fragrant flower spikes.

Vitex agnus-castus (Chaste Tree)
Large shrub to 2 m high. Palmate-shaped foliage with light violet blooms in racemes at ends of current season's growth. Blooms July to Sept. Hardy to zone 6/7. Bee attractant.
Vitex agnus-castus. First mentioned in 1772. Not common. Sometimes known as chaste tree, hemp tree, monk's pepper tree, sage tree, Indian spice and wild pepper.
Vitex negundo. Same family. Not common.
Wandering Jew. A common ground cover.

Lavender-blue spikes, to 7" long, are borne in summer held against the soft green foliage. A large open, spreading shrub or small tree that lends itself to a natural setting.
