Water Plantain (Alisma)
Water plants, of which two are fitted for growing with hardy aquatics. A. Plantago is rather stately in habit, having tall panicles of pretty pink flowers. When once planted it sows itself freely, often becoming a weed.

Water plantain is a striking plant for shallow water at a pond edge or in a very boggy site.

The Water Plantain, though its name suggests a similarity, is in fact widely different to the Plantago species, and belongs to another natural order, Alismaceae.

Field Marks: This is one of the species of arrow-heads that lacks the pointed basal lobes of the leaves. The stalks of the fruiting heads are recurved.
