M. citriodora, or Prairie Bergamot, contains a phenol and a citral.
SWEET HORSEMINT is a name of Cunila origanoides, the essential oil of which is a stimulant aromatic.

100 (150)cm, Wild Bergamot is a tall perennial with erect stems and a single terminal, dense cluster of bright pink tubular flowers attracting bees and butterflies. The long, lance shaped, toothed leaves are very aromatic and may be used in teas.

(Many of these named varieties of M. didyma are hybrids of M. clinopodia, M. didyma, and M. fistulosa. Some botanists refer to the entire group as M. media.) Wild bergamot (M. fistulosa). Perennial; zones 3 through 9.

Monarda didyma is pretty enough, but numerous cultivars and hybrids with wild bergamot (M. fistulosa) are available. 'Bowman' has purple flowers and gets 4 ft (1.2 m) tall. 'Alba' has white flowers.

Nicholas Monardes of Seville, who described wild bergamot in his work, American Floras, in 1571. Monardes probably called Monarda, bergamot because the leaf fragrance resembles Italian bergamot.

Russell's beebalm is one of the dozen species of wild bergamot's found throughout much of North America. It occurs from southern Illinois to Texas, with the Arkansas River drainage making up a big part of its range.
