Annual bluegrass is a common winter annual grass, while henbit, common chickweed and wild mustard are common winter annual broadleaf weeds. Weeds in this category are generally not as troublesome in the garden as summer annuals.

The cultivated cabbage is derived from a leafy plant called the wild mustard plant, native to the Mediterranean region, where it is common along the seacoast. It was known to the ancient Greeks and Romans and was praised for its medicinal properties.

These are yellow-flowered annuals naturalized in the United States; the black mustard is often a weed infesting grainfields, as is also the charlock, or wild mustard (B. arvensis).
