Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) - Substance produced by the unborn baby as it grows inside the uterus. Large amounts of AFP are found in amniotic fluid.

Albumin. -A normal body substance found in the blood which occasionally gets into the urine if the kidneys are not working right.
Anemia. -A condition of the blood in which there is either not enough hemoglobin or not enough red blood cells.

Albumin: A protein which if found in the urine of a pregnant woman can be a sign of preeclampsia.
Alpha fetoprotein: A substance produced by the fetus. High levels in a mother's blood can indicate a neural tube defect or multiple pregnancy.

Albumin, immune globulins, and clotting factor concentrates may also be separated and processed for transfusions.

The developing fetus has two major blood proteins--albumin and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Since adults typically have only albumin in their blood, the MSAFP test can be utilized to determine the levels of AFP from the fetus.

Preeclampsia is defined as the combination of high blood pressure (hypertension), swelling (edema), and protein in the urine (albuminuria, proteinuria) developing after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Be sure to inform your doctor or midwife about any persistent dizziness. If lightheadedness is accompanied by high blood pressure and excess albumin in the urine, it can be a symptom of toxemia.
