Pregnancy & Parenting AmniocentisisAmniotic fluid

During a twin pregnancy, it is important to determine whether twins are contained in a single, shared amnion or separate amnions. Twins that share an amnion are considered monoamniotic and may be at risk for complications.

Amnion was sterilized by peracetic acid/ethanol sterilization [PES] and preserved by air-drying (sterile laminar flow) [AD] or in glycerol [GLYC]. Unsterilized AM were preserved at -80 degrees C [-80 degrees C] and served as an experimental control.

Amnion
The thin, transparent inner membrane that, along with the chorion constitute the amniotic membranes. These membranes contain the amniotic fluid and form a protective layer for the baby insulating him/her from bacteria in the vagina.

Amnion: Membrane around the fetus. It surrounds the amniotic cavity.
Amniotic fluid: Liquid surrounding the baby inside the amniotic sac.

Amnion-See amniotic sac.
Amniocentesis-This is a procedure where amniotic fluid is removed from the uterus. Most often this test is done to allow examination of the baby's chromosomes in order to check for some genetic diseases.

Amnion-Thin, tough, innermost layer of the amniotic sac.
Amniotic membrane-The thin tissue that creates the walls of the amniotic sac.

Amnion Nodosum - A placental lesion consisting of numerous small nodules on the amnion of the chorionic disc, placental membranes, or the umbilical cord.

Amnion -- One of the fetal membranes. It surrounds the fetus and is inside the chorion. By approximately 16 weeks, the amnion fuses to the chorion to form a unified double membrane, the "chorio-amniotic" membrane.

The Amnion - The amnion is a membranous sac which surrounds and protects the embryo. It is developed in reptiles, birds, and mammals, which are hence called "Amniota;" but not in amphibia and fishes, which are consequently termed "Anamnia." ...

Occasionally the labour will begin with a rupture of the amniotic sac, the paired amnion and chorion ("breaking of the water"). The contractions will accelerate until they happen every two minutes although this is not always the case.

The amniotic fluid is liquid made by the fetus and the amnion (the membrane that covers the fetal side of the placenta) that protects the fetus from injury and helps regulate the temperature of the fetus.

The layers should fuse by the 16th week of pregnancy, but if the amnion tears before it fuses with the chorion it can form strands that wrap around the baby.

They are thought to originate when the inner membranes (amnion) rupture without injury to the outer membrane (chorion). The ruptured amnion remains as a plaque or fragments into bands which stretch across the chorionic cavity.

The blastocyst wall becomes the outer layer of membranes or chorion , which surround the embryo, while another inner layer of membranes becomes the amnion. These membrane layers develop by the 10th to 12th day post-conception.

congenital constriction band syndrome - early rupture of the amnion (inner membranes that cover the fetus in utero and contains the amnionic fluid) resulting in bands that may become entangled in the extremities of the fetus, causing immobilization, ...

Amniotic fluid sac (Amnion): Thin- walled membrane with in the uterus that surrounds the amniotic fluid. Contains the baby, placenta, and amniotic fluid.

Amniotic Fluid
A liquid consisting mostly of water made by the amnion (see amniotic sac) and the fetus. It usually totals 1500 ml at night months. It surrounds the fetus during pregnancy, providing it with protection.

Membranes
The baby is surrounded by 2 membranes, which are called the amnion and chorion. In effect it is as though the baby is in a balloon filled with water.

The sac is filled with amniotic fluid - liquid made by the fetus and the amnion (the membrane that covers the fetal side of the placenta) which protects the fetus from injury and helps to regulate the temperature of the fetus.

At this early stage of pregnancy, the gestational sac already contains the yolk sac, embryonic disk, and amnion, but these structures are too small to be visualized by sonography.

Most often, it's used to spot common genetic defects (such as Down syndrome) and neural tube defects (such as spina bifida and hydrocephalus). Amniocentesis is usually performed after 15 weeks gestation. This is when the chorionic and amnionic ...

The fetal membranes-the chorion is the outer one and the amnion is the inner one - envelop the embryo and contain the amniotic fluid. The word "afterbirth" entered the English language in the 16th century.
