Anterior position: When the baby faces the mother's spine in utero and/or during labor. This is the most common position for emerging babies.

Facing back toward the tailbone is the ideal situation-this is called an anterior position. When the baby is facing up toward the pubic bone (called a posterior position ), the labor may be slower and the mother may feel more back pain.

The incidence of a posterior presentation occurring at the onset of labor is 15 to 30 percent, and many such babies rotate spontaneously to an anterior position.

When the fetal head had descended to +2 station in the anterior position, women were randomly assigned to spontaneous birth (N = 168) or outlet forceps delivery (N = 165).

1 cm dialated, 50% effaced, my cervix is in the anterior position & baby is -3 (which is good, means she is moving down in the right position). We did have to choose a last possible induction date.

About 90% of babies will rotate to the OA (occiput anterior position, facing down towards the mother's rear) prior to birth. A few will even be born facing "sunny side up," sometimes called star gazers.

An OP baby and mother will have to work harder in labour to have a vaginal birth, and labour is often longer and more painful while the baby tries to rotate to the anterior position.

About 2/3 of vertex presenting babies are in a left occiput anterior (See Anterior.) and 1/3 are in a right occiput anterior position. Up to 14% of babies are in a breech presentation until the 29th-32nd week of gestation.

The nurse on this shift used to be a Bradley instructor (we had taken bradley classes), and she helped a lot. We did some hip circles and things to try and get the baby to rotate to an anterior position, ...
