The areolae (dark rings around the nipples) may begin to expand about now at the same time as becoming darker in color. Sometimes this happens earlier in the pregnancy. This is a normal process and they can stay like this until well after the birth.

 


The areolae take on a darker hue. A deeper nipple color might make it easier later for the newborn to spot his or her food source.

Darkening of areolae. You may notice that the skin around the nipples getting darker. This is a sure sign that you are pregnant, though in relatively rare cases, it might indicate a hormonal imbalance too.
Food cravings.

Observations like a child carried low in the womb is a girl and darkened areolae means that a woman will have a boy are the result of years of predictions. These predictions may be based on original observations.

These areas include your baby's mouth as well as your nipples and areolae. It's very messy and will turn your baby's lips and your nipples purple for a few days, but it is often very effective.

As your breasts become larger, the veins become more noticeable under the skin. The nipples and the area around the nipples (areola) become darker and larger. Small bumps may appear on the areolae and disappear after delivery.
