Meconium aspiration occurs when a baby breathes in amniotic fluid containing meconium (the baby's first stools).

OBJECTIVE: To examine the hemodynamic effects of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) in a neonatal model of meconium aspiration syndrome. DESIGN: A prospective animal study. PATIENTS AND PARTICIPANTS:Eight anesthetized neonatal piglets.

Aspiration Biopsy - A biopsy that is performed with a needle attached to a syringe and inserted through the skin into the target tissue. The specimen is sucked out through the needle and examined for abnormal cells.

Most aspirations and ingestions occur in children under the age of 4. To prevent such situations, cut up round foods that can easily cause choking, like grapes, vegetables and hot dogs. Avoid sliced foods, which are easier to lodge in the airway.
