Bradley Method:
The Bradley method is a childbirth education approach that prepares a mother for a delivery with minimal need for anesthetics or drugs and advocates the role of coach for the father. This method is named for its founder, Robert A.

 


The Bradley Method relies heavily on the coach or doula. While the coach is generally the husband, it certainly doesn't need to be. The coach is required to attend all 12 classes with the mother, and to be trained in ways to help during the delivery.

The Lamaze and Bradley methods of birthing classes both offer ways to deal with the pain and stress of labor and delivery. Lamaze classes emphasize how capable you are to give birth and focus through the pain with breathing exercises.

Bradley method (husband-coached childbirth): A 12-week course that teaches parents-to-be how to control the pain of childbirth using deep breathing and relaxation exercises.

Bradley Method-This approach to birth stresses the avoidance of medications unless absolutely necessary. This method also calls for an active role for the baby's father as birth coach. Good nutrition and exercise during pregnancy are encouraged.

The Bradley Method: A cousin to Lamaze, the Bradley Method also relies on women being active participants in labor. In Bradley Method classes, couples learn deep-breathing strategies to cope with labor pain.

I looked only at Bradley Method. I had just taken the series as a student and had gone on to have my first VBAC. I was completely convinced that the only reason I succeeded was because I had taken Bradley.
