Bradycardia
An abnormally low heart rate. When referring to the fetal heart rate (FHR) tracing in labor, abnormally low heart rates can signal problems with the fetus before delivery. The FHR is often monitored for abnormalities of the heart rate.

In a fetus a mean heart rate less than 110 beats per minute lasting for at least two minutes. In an adult a sustained heart rate less than 60 beats per minute.

When the heart is beating dangerously fast or irregularly, a higher energy shock may be delivered to the heart muscle to restore a normal rhythm.
