BREAST PUMP. Piece of equipment which is both manual or electric, used for expressing breast milk.

A breast pump is designed to extract milk from a mother's breasts so that she, or someone else, can bottle-feed her baby later with the expressed milk.
Breast Pump-A machine (either manual or electric) removes milk from a woman's breasts. Women use breast pumps to pump and store their breast milk for future use.

There are a number of breast pumps on the market, with varying degrees of comfort, efficiency, and cost. Most require time to develop the skills to use them. Pumps may be hand-operated (manual), battery, or electrically-operated.

Choosing a Breast Pump
Consider your needs. Most pumps are portable, efficient, and easy to use. How often you intend to pump dictates the durability of the pump you need. In turn, durability drives cost.
Which kind of breast pump you opt to use is really up to you. Some women find manual (or hand-operated) pumps to be more portable, more discreet, and easier to use.
Diapers? Check.
Breast pump? Check.

I swept her membranes, gave her castor oil, and breast pump in order to get her labor going. I thought that an induction at this point was better than a hospital birth for high boold pressure later on.
The midwife should instruct the mother about how to express excess milk using her hands and/or a breast pump to relieve the engorgement.
We also got to see a little manual breast pump firsthand. It looked a lot like the kind of water pistol you wished you had when you were in third grade. It was pretty cool, and I stuck it to my leg to test the suction. It sucked.
Use a hospital-grade, electric breast pump to ensure milk removal. Express milk for several minutes after breastfeeding. How long you will need to continue to pump depends on how quickly your baby learns to breastfeed effectively.

Circumstances might arise where a breast pump is necessary, such as if you need to provide milk for a sick or premature baby.
Check with your hospital to see whether they have handheld breast pumps available for you to use after your baby is born. This may be helpful if your milk comes in during your stay.
