Pregnancy & Parenting Cervical stitchCervix

Cervidil: A medication used to ripen or soften the cervix before labor is induced.
Cervix: The narrow, lower end of the uterus. During labor, the cervix softens, thins, and opens to allow the baby to leave the uterus.

Cervidil
A medication used to induce labor.
Cesarean
A surgical procedure in which the abdomen and uterus are cut open for childbirth. See StorkNet's Cesarean Birth Cubby.

Cervidil - A medication that is commonly used by healthcare providers to ripen the cervix before an induction is begun. The medication is shaped similar to that of a tampon and is inserted into the vagina.

Cervidil®:
Cervidil® is a wafer that is embedded with prostaglandin and has a string on it like a tampon. It is placed in the vagina. It delivers a constant rate of prostaglandin each hour. Cervidil® lasts for 12 to 18 hours.

The nurse put the Cervidil in. I got hooked up to monitoring, though she showed me how to detach them in case I wanted to move around.

At 4:30 pm, the doctor inserted something called Cervidil. It's a little gel pack with a string that sits on the cervix for 12 hours to try and soften it and begin labor.

Well todays the day, went in yesterday bloods were fine cervix shorter but still closed so Im off today to start the cervidil, there is a chance that it will start the labour but still a chance that tomorrow I will get the oxytocin, ...

It can be accomplished by using a variety of agents (cytotec, prostaglandin, cervidil, or pitocin or by breaking the water in a patient who is already dilated).

Dinoprostone (such as Cervidil or Prepidil Gel) can be inserted as a suppository into your vagina (intravaginally). It can also be given as a gel that is gently squirted into the opening of the cervix (intracervically).
