Chorionic villus sampling
Who: Some women over age 35 because of an increased risk of Down syndrome and other genetic conditions. Women who have had a previous child or pregnancy with a birth defect.

Chorionic villi: microscopic, finger-like projections that make up the placenta.
Chromosomes: structures located inside each cell in the body containing the genes which determine a person's physical make-up.

Chorionic Villus Sampling
A prenatal diagnostic test, done at 8-10 weeks of pregnancy to asses the fetus' chromosomes. The advantage of this test over amniocentesis is that (CVS) can be done earlier in gestation than the amniocentesis .

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) - This is a procedure in which a sample of the chorion (the membrane surrounding the baby) is taken for testing. The needle is inserted into the placenta but the amniotic sac is not disturbed.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
This is a diagnostic test which can tell you for certain whether your baby has Down's syndrome or another genetic abnormality. The test can't tell you whether your baby has spina bifida.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) - Samples of tiny projections on the placenta, called chorionic villi, are taken to look for defects in the foetus.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a relatively new procedure used to diagnose certain birth defects in the first trimester of pregnancy.

chorionic villus sampling (CVS) - placental tissue that is sometimes retrieved for laboratory analysis. Cells from this tissue can be tested for certain genetic abnormalities and chromosomal disorders.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) - If necessary this test is performed between 10 and 12 weeks of pregnancy and can indicate the same chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders as amniocentesis can. (Read about "Pregnancy Testing") ...

Chorionic Villus Sampling: Diagnostic test for chromosomal abnormalities usually carried out between the ninth and eleventh week of pregnancy.

Chorion: Outermost fetal membrane found around the amnion.
Chorionic villus sampling: Diagnostic test done early in pregnancy.

Chorionic villi sampling: An invasive prenatal test that looks for genetic abnormalities by sampling a piece of the placenta. Usually done at 10 to 12 weeks' gestation.
Chromosomes: The cellular structures that contain the genes.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) at 10-12 weeks: A thin tube (catheter) is threaded usually through the vagina and cervix into the uterus and a small sample of the placental tissue is obtained.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS): An early genetic diagnostic test, usually given between weeks 10 and 13 of pregnancy.

Chorion-The outer membrane of the amniotic sac. Chorionic villi develop from its outer surface early in pregnancy. The villi establish a physical connection with the wall of the uterus and eventually develop into the placenta.

Chorionic Villae Sampling (CVS) -- An alternative to amniocentesis that can be done earlier in the pregnancy. It is a biopsy of the placenta that is used to check for genetic abnormalities in the fetus.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) - A procedure that removes a small sample of chorionic villi cells from the placenta where it joins the uterus, to test for chromosome abnormalities such as Down syndrome ...

Chorionic villi sampling: A prenatal test that scans for genetic abnormalities.
Chromosomes: The cellular structures that contain the genes.
Circumcision: Surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis.

Chorionic Villus Sampling: Like amniocentesis, CVS is a test used to detect birth defects in the baby.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) - Diagnostic test done early in pregnancy. A biopsy of tissue is taken from inside the uterus through the abdomen or the cervical opening (through the vagina) to determine abnormalities of pregnancy.

chorionic villus sampling
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a diagnostic test carried out in early pregnancy, usually between Week 10 and Week 12 of pregnancy.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS): This diagnostic test involves collecting cells from the placenta, which are then sent to a lab for genetic analysis.

Chorionic Villus Sampling - A procedure that takes a small sample of the tissue where the placenta joins the uterus to test for chromosome abnormalities.
Chromosome - A threadlike body in the cell nucleus that carries the genes.

Chorionic Villous Sampling (CVS)--this technigue uses a needle through the cervix (a vaginal approach) to biopsy some chorionic tissue (placental tissue).

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS): This procedure is used during the first trimester for the same purposes as an amniocentesis.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)-A few cells from the placenta are removed during pregnancy in order to examine the baby's chromosomes and look for some genetic diseases.

Chorionic villus (KOR-ee-ON-ihk VIL-uhss) sampling (CVS)
A test done at 10 to 13 weeks to diagnose certain birth defects, including:
Chromosomal disorders, including Down syndrome
Genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis ...

Chorionic Villus Sampling ("CVS")
to test placental tissue for the presence of fetal chromosomal abnormalities. CVS is generally performed in either one of two ways. The first is similar to an amniocentesis.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
CVS is a test that is carried out at 11 to 14 weeks and looks for chromosomal abnormalities.

sub-chorionic hemorrhage -- an area, usually near the edge of the placenta or in fluid just outside of the gestational sac, that is bleeding. This can either bleed out and show as spotting or bleeding, or can form a bruise that does not bleed.

CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling): A technique for early detection of birth defects in the fetus.7
Circumcision: Surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis.7 ...

CVS (chorionic villus sampling)
When? Between 11-14 weeks.
Why? This diagnostic test looks for conditions including Down's, sickle cell and thalassaemia.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
Shortly after a fertilized egg implants into the lining of the uterus, it begins to secrete the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG. Dr.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG): The hormone produced in early pregnancy, released by the placenta after implantation, which keeps the corpus luteum producing estradiol and progesterone and thus prevents menstruation.

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG): A hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is the indicator that shows up on both home and physician-administered pregnancy tests.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)
The placenta produces HCG during pregnancy. It sets up the series of events that causes production of progesterone by the corpus luteum. hCG levels are measured to confirm pregnancy.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG): The hormone that is produced by the placenta. hCG is the hormone detected by pregnancy tests. Read more about hCG in our section How Hormones Drive Your Cycle.

HUMAN CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN (Ovidrel, Novaryl, Pregnyl) - Medication used to trigger ovulation.
HUMAN MENOPAUSAL GONADOTROPIN (Menopur, Repronex, Luvens) - These drugs stimulate follicle growth.

Human chorionic gonadotropin: (hCG) A human hormone made by chorionic cells in the fetal part of the placenta . Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is directed at the gonads and stimulates them. Hence, the name "gonadotropin." ...

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin for Weight Loss
Dr. Kent Holtorf explains what human chorionic gonadotropin or HCG is, stating that it is a hormone that women produce while they're pregnant, and is used to increase progesterone for the baby.

Primary chorionic villi. Diagrammatic.
(Modified from Bryce.)
The Placenta - The placenta connects the fetus to the uterine wall, and is the organ by means of which the nutritive, respiratory, and excretory functions of the fetus are carried on.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
This diagnostic test is usually performed between 8 and 11 weeks gestation, sometimes as late as 13 weeks. This is generally a test for people who have a high risk of genetic abnormalities.

Chorionic villus sampling has a risk of miscarriage that is slightly higher than the risk of miscarriage after an amniocentesis at 15 to 17 weeks of pregnancy. A miscarriage may be associated with bleeding, leakage of amniotic fluid, or... More ...

chorionic villus sampling (KOR-ee-ah-nik VIL-us SAM-pleeng) - Also called CVS. A test of tissue from the placenta that checks for birth defects and genetic problems, like Down syndrome. You can get CVS at 10 to 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Chorionic Villi - Slender, finger-like projections that attach the developing embryo/fetus to the wall of the uterus. Most of the placental disc is composed of chorionic villi.

Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a prenatal test that involves taking a sample of some of the placental tissue.
