OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to determine if there were any long-lasting elevated anxiety levels in women attending colposcopy after an abnormal cervical smear. DESIGN: Prospective study.

 


Colposcopy: Examination of (usually) the cervix through a colposcope, an instrument that is placed at the front of the vagina without touching the body and which can magnify the image of the cervix.

Colposcopy -- Use of a scope to examine the cervix for abnormal cells.
Conception -- The fertilization of an egg by sperm that leads to the creation of a new being.

colposcopy - a procedure which uses an instrument with magnifying lenses, called a colposcope, to examine the cervix for abnormalities. If abnormal tissue is found, a biopsy is usually performed (colposcopic biopsy).

About another two weeks later my doctor had me scheduled for a colposcopy to be done to check the cells again. This time my doctor had told me the cells look worse more of the higher grade dysplasia.
