Complete miscarriage This is the loss of your pregnancy and all of the pregnancy tissue. You may or may not have been aware of passing the tissue. You may have had pain or been bleeding or spotting for a while.

With a complete miscarriage, bleeding and abdominal pain have occurred but have usually stopped. Products of conception have been passed. The early fetus has been passed and was not alive. Ultrasound reveals an empty womb.

If it's actual tissue of the pregnancy (fetal or placental), then there should be serious concern, because now this "threatened miscarriage" is re-labeled as "incomplete miscarriage." No one knows why such a phenomenon occurs, but it is harmless.
Either an incomplete miscarriage or an infection can lead to heavy bleeding and severe pain starting again. It is unusual for this to happen. But if it does, your partner may need emergency treatment, so call an ambulance (RCOG 2008a).
