Dresser - Not everything can be hung in a closet. A small dresser or a dresser that can grow with your little sprout works best.

Your most important items are a sturdy crib with a firm mattress, a changing table with compartments or shelves, one large dresser or bureau, and a comfortable rocker or glider. Make sure all furnishings meet federal safety requirements.

I found it was most comfortable for me to be leaning over the dresser, or on all fours on the bed, while hubby rubbed my back with a figure eight motion.

(And you didn't think that was possible.) A dresser and a couple dozen mini hangers go a long way in keeping them organized. Throw a few plastic bins in bigger dresser drawers so you can keep track of socks and onesies.

Why not visit the hairdresser this week? It might be easier to get a good cut now rather than when you have a newborn. It could help with your relaxation too! ...

Nursery furniture items you need are a crib, a changing table (or a dresser with a changing pad on top) and a rocking chair or glider rocker. These should be chosen for functionality and safety.

If it looks like the room isn't big enough for all the pieces you want to include, don't despair. 'You can simplify by putting a changing tray with a pad on top of a dresser,' says Sachs.

It may mean more frequent trips to the hair dresser. You may also notice hair growth on other parts of your body because of the increase in hormones, such as on your chest.

-You personally do without new towels or a trip to the hairdresser to buy your child an outrageously prices pair of jeans, sneakers or prom dress.

You need to keep yourself and Baby safe, so tripping over the dresser is not a good idea.

Keep the crib uncluttered. Leave out the pillows, stuffed animals and everything else. Put the baby monitor on the dresser out of reach. If you must use a blanket make sure it is lightweight. Do not use heavy blankets or comforters.
High chairs ...

You will need a safe place for them to sleep, a dresser for their clothes, a place to change them and that is really it for the first few months. You may find it helpful to place a chair for feeding the baby in the nursery as well.

I stocked up the freezer, went to the hairdresser and the cinema, and had meals out with my husband - everything I knew I wouldn’t have time for when the baby arrived.

One mother of twins found that the relaxation of a regular massage and trip to the hairdresser made her feel "mothered." Being waited on at home or in a restaurant can have a similar effect.

Do not use infant sleep positioners, which are dangerous and not needed.

Looking after a baby, especially a first baby, can be exhausting (even if it is rewarding some of the time). Offering to clean a bathroom, bring a casserole over, or baby-sit while the new mother goes to the supermarket or hairdresser, ...

Changing gear - you might want a changing mat or baby dresser with a changing top.
Muslin cloths or other large, soft washable dribble cloths are useful for wiping, drying or as a top sheet in the pram or crib.
