It usually takes a good two hours for the contractions to start and a second dose insures that they keep on going. If this is too gross for you a good enema will also irritate the colon and produce contractions.

If there is suspected disease of the urinary tract, a CT-IVP (intravenous pyelogram) may be ordered, and if intestinal disease is suspected, a barium enema may be needed.
