Engorgement
Your mature breast milk will ‘come in' a few days after giving birth. Up until then, you will be feeding your baby with colostrum.

 


Breast Engorgement - Symptoms

Symptoms of breast engorgement happen when the breasts produce and fill with milk but little milk is removed from them. Milk overfills and engorges the breasts.

Engorgement
Swelling and tenderness of the breasts resulting from excess fullness with milk. Usually this occurs about 3-5 days after delivery.

ENGORGEMENT
Expect engorgement. A new mother usually produces lots of milk, making her breasts big, hard and painful for a few days (nature's way of providing enough milk just in case there were multiple babies born).

Engorgement: Swollen and tender breasts postpartum. Engorgement occurs when the mother's milk comes in between two days and a week after childbirth. Symptoms usually disappear in a few days when nursing is well established.

Engorgement: The filling of blood vessels in some part of the body.
Fish oil: Derived from fish containing DHA and EPA polyunsaturated fatty acids. Tuna oil is considered the best quality, containing the highest levels of DHA.

Engorgement: Congested; filled with fluid.
Enzyme: Protein made by cells. It acts as a catalyst to improve or cause chemical changes in other substances.

What is breast engorgement, and what causes it?

Breast Engorgement-This is an uncomfortable feeling of fullness and hardness in the breasts. This occurs around the third or fourth day postpartum when mature milk is coming in.

What is Engorgement?
After birth, most women will experience some breast fullness and firmness when their mature milk comes in at 3 to 4 days. This is normal. As milk production increases, blood and lymph fluids accumulate in the breast.

A few days after giving birth, colostrum turns to milk, and you'll experience the phenomenon known as engorgement. All of a sudden, you'll wake up and see Dolly Parton staring back at you in your bathroom mirror.
