FISH test: fluorescence in situ hybridization test. A method of chromosome evaluation done with amniotic fluid. The results are usually available in about 3 days and can show evidence of disorders such as trisomy.
It can be used on an amniocentesis sample to get a faster result. It is always followed by the usual chromosome test. A normal FISH test is about 98% accurate in predicting that a baby will have a normal chromosome result.
"Telomere" is a term used to describe the very ends of chromosomes. When FISH is used specifically to look for chromosome abnormalities in this area, it is referred to as "subtelomeric FISH testing." ...
