Hemoglobin
The chemical in red blood cells that carries oxygen to the tissues. The hemoglobin level is measured as grams of hemoglobin per 100 milliliters of blood.

 


Hemoglobin carries oxygen to all parts of the body. It is the main ingredient in red blood cells. Most of the time, red blood cells contain hemoglobin A. Genes that we inherit from our parents determine what kind of hemoglobin we have.
