Homocysteine

Pregnancy & Parenting Hiv testingHormone

Homocysteine: A type of amino acid that forms proteins necessary for human life.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG): A hormone that helps the ovaries produce progesterone and estrogen during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Homocysteine
An amino acid produced during the chemical breakdown of the essential amino acid methionine into cysteine. Homocysteine is also used by the body to regenerate methionine.

Homocysteine metabolism -- Folic acid helps to break down homocysteine, an amino acid that can cause problems if it builds up to high levels.

Levels of homocysteine in the body are reduced with adequate intake of folic acid. Elevated homocysteine has been linked to cardiovascular disease. Recent research shows that folic acid may also support healthy blood pressure.

Vitamin B6
(High Homocysteine)
750 mg daily taken under the supervision of a doctor
Women who habitually miscarry have been found to have high homocysteine levels. Vitamin B6 may reduce these levels and increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.
