After some surgeries, you may be given special instructions other than these for taking care of the incision. Be sure to follow those instructions carefully.

Incision - C-section:
After the anesthesia takes effect, the surgeon makes an abdominal incision. In non-emergency C-sections, the surgeon usually makes a horizontal incision (a bikini cut) across the abdomen, just above the pubic area.

Incision care
If you have strips of tape on the incision, leave the tape on for a week or until it falls off.
Wash the area daily with warm, soapy water, and pat it dry.

Your incision is draining.
Sometimes your incision will drain blood or pus. You should always have this looked at, while some discharge may be normal, let your practitioners decide what that is for you.

Incision - A surgical cut made into the skin, tissue or organ of the body. During a cesarean section, the surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen and through the abdominal muscles and uterus to deliver the baby.

Incisional Hernia After Laparoscopic Surgery
Though rare, an incisional hernia can occur after laparoscopic surgery if the abdominal wall doesn't close.

Your incision areas should be kept dry for a few days. Follow your surgeon's instructions on bathing and dressing care. You may need to go back to have your sutures removed. Keep all your follow-up appointments.

Type of incision used for the previous cesarean. Scarring above the thinner, lower uterus is more likely to rupture. A low, side-to-side (transverse) incision is least likely to rupture.

The uterine incision is then closed by using a suture designed to melt away in several weeks. This closure stops the bleeding from the edges of the incision.
