Many women, particularly those who have had several births, experience some involuntary urination. This usually happens after a bout of physical exertion, coughing or sneezing.

While urinary incontinence is certainly nothing to sneeze at (ask any woman living with it!), there are steps you can take to minimize incontinence and regain bladder control.

Stress incontinence may happen at anytime in pregnancy, but is more common towards the end. It is often worse for a few days following the birth, when the muscles of the pelvic floor and other structures are recovering.

Women who reported gaining a relatively high amount of weight in the first 15 weeks of pregnancy (about 7 kg or more) did have a somewhat higher risk of incontinence by the 30th week.

This can help eliminate or alleviate symptoms of incontinence. To do this you need to identify the muscle, done by stopping the flow of urine. When you are not urinating, you should slowly squeeze this muscle together and hold it for a count of ten.

Urinary or fecal incontinence often resolves gradually as your body returns to its normal prepregnancy state. Encourage the process with Kegel exercises, which help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.

Stress incontinence: The inability to hold in urine. Many women find they leak urine during the last trimester when they laugh, cough, or sneeze. It is a result of the mounting pressure of the growing uterus on the bladder.

Urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence related to bladder muscle contractions which occur involuntarily and in the setting of an inability to suppress those contractions.
Urinary obstruction
Inability to pee.

Urinary Incontinence-This is the inability to control the outflow of urine. Stress incontinence is the leaking of urine when sneezing, laughing, or coughing. Urge incontinence is loss of urine with a strong urge to void.

Incontinence - Loss of bladder or bowel control that leads to the accidental loss of urine or feces. Stress incontinence is more common in women and causes urine to leak when laughing or coughing.

Incontinence can be troublesome. There are strategies to decrease this problem, including Kegel exercises, medications, insertable devices, and surgery.

Incontinence is a complicated problem resulting in embarrassment, social crippling, lost wages, and sexual hesitation. It need not be. With the advances in vaginal, laparoscopic, and suspension surgery, stress incontinence can be easily treated.

What are the Benefits of Kegels?
Though people often say "no pain, no gain," Kegel exercises offer maximum benefits yet require minimum effort.

urinary tract infection - an infection that occurs in the urinary tract; often caused by bacteria such as Escherichia coli.

Urinary stress incontinence is common during pregnancy and after child birth.
More than half of women having their first baby and 1 in 3 women who have already had a baby experience some amount of leaking of urine.

Incontinence issues: For the first few days (and sometimes weeks) after birth, your urine and bowel movements may be out of control.

The spasms lead to temporary loss of consciousness, stop the mother from breathing, may make her bite her tongue and sometimes cause urinary incontinence. Most convulsions last for a minute or less before stopping spontaneously.

A severe case of separation of the symphysis pubis during labor and delivery is reported, which included severe pain and unusual complications of urinary outflow incontinence and fecal incontinence that gradually resolved with conservative treatment.

Also, a very effective exercise used for the prevention and management of urine incontinence are Kegel exercises. Kegel exercises work by strengthening a muscle in your pelvis called the pubococcygeus, (pronounced pew-bo-kak-se-gee-us; PC for short).

What's even more annoying is that you might have sudden, uncontrollable urges to urinate, called urge incontinence (over 40 percent of first-time moms experience it).

Kegels are also key as I did have some urinary incontinence for about 2 months when I would run. After a C-section wait a good 6 weeks for anything other than walking.

I am 18 weeks pregnant, and I am having a really hard time with incontinence. This is my third pregnancy and if I cough or sneeze or even if I'm just sitting, my bladder leaks. Will this continue after the baby is born?

Having an episiotomy can cause problems with pain, incontinence and poor healing, with very few benefits for either you or your baby. So your midwife should only offer you an episiotomy if she feels that you will clearly benefit from the procedure.

- If you are concerned about stress incontinence or a diminished sexual response, Pilates' focus on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles can be especially helpful.

Temporary incontinence is common in pregnancy. That's just great, you think. You knew you had to get diapers, but you thought they'd be for the baby, not for you. To head off that problem at the pass, try working out your hoo-hoo by doing Kegels.

During childbirth the pelvic floor takes a battering: the tissues are stretched, or even torn, by the baby's passage. If you don't do anything, you could risk urinary incontinence or, worse still, prolapse (slipping down of the organs).

pelvic floor is formed of layers of muscle that support the uterus, bowel and bladder. Pregnancy and childbirth put pressure on these muscles, and you may find that you urinate slightly when you sneeze or cough - this is called 'stress incontinence'.

The most common neural tube defect is spina bifida (in which the vertebrae do not fuse together properly, causing the spinal cord to be exposed) which can lead to varying degrees of paralysis, incontinence, and sometimes mental retardation.

But afterward, they can make it easier for your pelvic muscles to return to normal, and they may prevent problems with urinary incontinence later in life.
