Induction
In some situations, a woman and her doctor may decide to induce her labor, instead of allowing it to start naturally.

Induction abortions are rarely done because abortions in the first trimester are safe and effective.

Induction of labor is not necessarily ruled out in women who have previously had the usual type of low transverse cesarean section (with a horizontal incision on the uterus) as long as contractions of the uterus can be carefully monitored.

(Initiation of labor). If labor has not started at an appropriate time or if there are maternal indications for delivery before labor starts naturally, medications may be used to initiate labor.

Labor induction is what doctors use to try to help labor along using medications or other medical techniques. Years ago, some doctors routinely induced labor. But now it's not usually done unless there's a true medical need for it.

Labor induction and augmentation includes a simple "sweeping of the membranes" just inside of the cervix, rupturing the amniotic sac, using medication to soften (ripen) the cervix, and using medication to stimulate contractions.

What is induction?
Having your baby induced simply means making labour happen. The most common method of induction is called a membrane sweep.

How will induction affect my baby?
Medications used to induce labor may cause strong contractions. Your health care provider will keep a careful eye on your baby's heart rate throughout the induction.

Ovulation induction is a process whereby -- through drug therapy -- some of the 1,000 eggs lost monthly are rescued from atresia and allowed to develop to maturity. The following discussion is a description of the process of ovulation induction.

Menstrual Induction - Aspiration of the endometrium that is performed one to three weeks after the woman has failed to menstruate. This method can also be used to remove the remaining tissue of an incomplete miscarriage.

Ovulation Induction
The therapeutic use of drugs or hormones to stimulate egg development and release.

OVULATION INDUCTION - Drug treatment that stimulates the development and release of one or more mature eggs from the ovaries.

Ovulation Induction: Use of medication to recruit and develop many eggs. Clomiphene citrate, Lupron, and injectable FSH are used for ovulation induction and IVF. Frequently coupled with intrauterine inseminations.

Ovulation induction
Treatment of ovulation dysfunction caused by such disorders as amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, and LPD, using drugs that induce ovulation. These so~called fertility drugs include CC and gonadotropins.

Ovulation predictor test
A home test kit that help women detect the "LH surge" in their urine. A surge in the level of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) causes ovulation.

Ovulation Induction
A type of infertility treatment that uses hormone therapy to stimulate oocyte (egg) development and release. Initial therapy may include oral tablets taken for a few days (clomiphene citrate).

OVULATION INDUCTION- The use of female hormone therapy (clomiphene citrate, FSH, hCG) to stimulate oocyte development and release.
