IUD Proposed to Treat Uterine Cancer
WEDNESDAY, Sept. 29 (HealthDay News) -- An intrauterine device that releases a progestin hormone may be an effective treatment for younger women with early-stage uterine cancer, Italian researchers report.

An IUD - a long-acting contraception
An IUD is an intrauterine device which, when inserted into a woman's uterus, provides long lasting protection against pregnancy.

An IUD must be inserted into the uterus by a doctor. It is often easiest to insert during a menstrual period. Copper IUDs need to be replaced by a doctor about every 10 years.

Once an IUD is inserted you can forget about contraception. So, unlike the pill, you don't need to think about contraception every day. It does not interfere with sex.

An IUD can be inserted to prevent pregnancy within five to seven days after unprotected intercourse.
