Neural tube defect (NTD)
A major birth defect caused by abnormal development of the neural tube, the structure present during embryonic life which gives rise to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord).

NTD -- neural tube defect. Any of a group of abnormalities related to the fetal brain and spine.

A previous NTD-affected pregnancy. (This increases a woman's chance of having another NTD-affected pregnancy by approximately 20 times.) Maternal insulin-dependent diabetes. Use of anti-seizure medication.

Neural tube defect (NTD) was found to be the commonest (65.8%) type of anomaly. Among the most frequent NTD was hydrocephalus and anencephaly.

If a woman has already had a pregnancy affected by an NTD, she should ask her provider before her next pregnancy about the amount of folic acid she should take.

In a preliminary study, women with the highest total dietary zinc intake before pregnancy (including zinc from both food and supplements) had a 35% decreased risk of having an NTD-affected pregnancy.

A neural tube defect (NTD) is a birth defect that occurs when the spine, the brain, or the bone and skin that protect them do not develop properly.

If you've already had a baby with an NTD, consult your doctor about how much folic acid you should take before your next pregnancy.

These are called neural tube defects (NTD). Spina bifida is one example of an NTD. But the risks of overheating are greater with hot tubs and saunas than baths.

This is a fatal malformation and these children die within a few days of delivery. The risk of anencephaly and other NTD's (neural tube defects) can be reduced by taking appropriate amounts of folic acid before conception and throughout pregnancy.
