Ovary
The female gonad, or ovary, is responsible for producing and releasing the hormones essential to normal menstruation and pregnancy. The ovaries also release an ovum for transport through the Fallopian tube into the uterus once each month.

Ovary

ovary
A woman's ovaries are located on both sides of the uterus, below the opening of the fallopian tubes (tubes that extend from the uterus to the ovaries).

Ovary: the female ovum (egg)-producing gland. The ovaries also produce some hormones. It is an organ that resembles the shape and size of an almond. A woman has 2 ovaries. They are located internally in the abdomen just below the belly button.

The Ovary:
Ovarian cancer may develop from either ovarian tissue itself or from the lining that surrounds the ovary. This lining, peritoneum, is the same stuff that lines the rest of the inside of the abdomen.

Ovary - The reproductive function of the ovaries is to release eggs during the menstrual cycle to be fertilized by sperm. The hormonal function of the ovaries is to produce estrogen and progesterone.

Resistant Ovary -- An ovary that cannot respond to the follicle-stimulating message sent by FSH. Primitive germ cells will be present in the ovary; however, they will not respond to FSH stimulation.

Polycystic ovary syndrome. Clomiphene alone may not be an effective treatment for most women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and severe insulin resistance, which is closely linked to obesity.

polycystic ovary syndrome
This condition is often associated with infertility.

A normal tube and ovary as seen at laparoscopy.
Follicles: Fluid-filled sacs in the ovary which contain the eggs released at ovulation. Each month an egg develops inside the ovary in a fluid-filled pocket called a follicle.

After leaving the ovary, the egg spends a couple of days gliding down the fallopian tube until it reaches the uterus (also known as the womb).

An egg from the ovary is fertilized and becomes implanted outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube. As the fertilized egg enlarges, the fallopian tube stretches and ruptures, causing life-threatening internal bleeding. ...

Stigma: Area on the ovary where the egg has been released at the time of ovulation.
Stretch marks: Areas of the skin that are tom or stretched. Often found on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks and legs.

Ovulation is the name given to the process of the release of the egg (Latin name = ovum, plural = ova) from the follicle of the Ovary. Ovulation occurs once the egg has reached a certain stage of maturity.

Ovarian Cyst A fluid-filled sac inside the ovary. An ovarian cyst may be found in conjunction with ovarian disorders, tumors of the ovary, and endometriosis.

At the ER two sacs were seen in my uterus and a "mass" around my left ovary. Two weeks and two emergency rooms later I was still having terrible pain on the left side and my blood pressure kept dropping. I was also having intermittent bleeding.

Early in pregnancy the progesterone is made by the small cyst in the ovary called the corpus luteum. After about nine to 10 weeks the placenta should be producing enough progesterone to support the pregnancy.

The procedure may be performed during laparoscopy or through the vagina by using a needle and ultrasound to locate the follicle in the ovary.

Ovarian cyst - A fluid-filled sac in the ovary that can vary in size; may or may not be problematic, but can sometimes cause pain and can be an indicator of PCOS if there are multiple cysts.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormone imbalance that interferes with normal ovulation which can cause abnormal bleeding.
Medicines, such as birth control pills, sometimes cause abnormal vaginal bleeding.

A very small number of them may survive as long as 48 hours, but only one has to make it to the fallopian tube to meet the egg that has been released from an ovary.

Phase 1: The first phase consists of stimulating the ovary with hormones injected just beneath the skin or into a muscle in order to cause several eggs to mature.

On day five an egg starts maturing in your ovary. This egg is released around day 14 and a missed menstrual period around two weeks later is indicative of pregnancy. When you are 1 week pregnant bleeding symptoms may be experienced.

The Fallopian tube connects the ovary with the uterus (womb) and is the tube along which the egg passes to reach the womb.

On day seven, the ovary prepares ovum for fusion with a sperm. From day eight to eleven, the lining of the uterus thickens.

High levels of LH triggers the release of mature egg from the ovary and so signals your fertile period. While there is always a small amount of LH present, the amount of LH increases by up to five times in the days leading up to ovulation.

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) rarely or never ovulate. Failure to ovulate is the most common cause of infertility in women.
With primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), a woman's ovaries stop working normally before she is 40.

Polycystic ovary syndrome, which can cause ovulation problems, obesity, increased male hormone levels, and an increased risk of diabetes.
A poorly controlled ongoing disease (such as diabetes or an autoimmune disease).

You must be wondering "Why is there a cyst in my ovary?"
The egg, which comes from the ovary, needs someplace to grow until it is mature enough to be released in order to meet up with a sperm and get fertilized.

It can be caused by both male and female factors such as low sperm count, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary syndrome, erectile dysfunction, and other factors.

At the same time, your fertility cycle starts over again as your body sends a signal to your brain to start producing follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), increasing the amount of estrogen in your body and causing one of your ovary's eggs to start ...

Finally at the age of 23 I was diagnosed, once a cyst had ruptured on my left ovary. I had a laporatomy, and found endo everywhere - uterus, cul de sac, fallopian tubes and both ovaries.

Estrogen: The primary female hormone produced mainly by the ovary from puberty to menopause. Estrogen is responsible for the normal growth and differentiation of both the follicle and the egg.

When an egg is ready to be fertilized, the ovary releases it into the tube. This is called ovulation, and it usually happens about 2 weeks before a woman expects to get her next period.

Multiples: If two eggs are released from the ovary (or one egg from each ovary) and are fertilized by two separate sperm, fraternal twins (dizygotic) have been conceived.

When you are first pregnant, the ovary that produced the egg has an ovarian cyst called the corpus luteum. That's what makes the hormones that keep you from menstruating until the placenta forms about week 12.

I'm assuming you mean you had your left ovary removed. You only have 1 uterus, this is the "house" your baby lives in. You have 2 ovaries, one on either side of your uterus connected by fallopian tubes. The ovaries house your eggs.

ovulation induction medications - these medications stimulate the ovary to make one or more follicles (sacs that contain eggs) and release the egg for fertilization.

Hormones to support your pregnancy are made from the start of conception in the ovary, and from the 10th to the 14th week, the placenta gradually takes over this production. The main hormone is progesterone, which sustains the pregnancy.

In order to conceive, you need to have unprotected sex at the right time of the month, ie during your most fertile period, which is ovulation, or when an ovary releases an ova, or egg.

The structure on the ovary surface that nurtures a ripening oocyte. At ovulation the follicle ruptures and the oocyte is released.

These processes include the ability to produce (mature) an egg (s) which will fertilize, and the transport of the egg from the ovary to the end of the fallopian tube.
