Blighted Ovum
When a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, but an embryo does not develop, it is known as a blighted ovum. A blighted ovum is a miscarriage that occurs very early on.

A blighted ovum is a type of pregnancy loss which happens in very early pregnancy. Your midwife or doctor might also refer to it as an anembryonic pregnancy, but it is more likely they will call it a silent or missed miscarriage.

A blighted ovum is one type of miscarriage that often occurs before a woman even knows that she is pregnant.

Ovum
An ovum (also called the egg) is a female reproductive cell or gamete. The egg contains the parents' genetic contribution; each child normally receives one-half of her/his genes from the mother and one-half from the father.

Ovum: A human egg.
Oxytocin: A hormone secreted by the pituitary gland. When released, oxytocin causes uterine contractions. Pitocin is a synthetic form of the hormone.

Ovum: the egg, or the female sex (reproductive) cell produced in the ovary. An ovum is released once a month after puberty begins. Occasionally 2 or more ova are released. The ovum travels down the fallopian tube to reach the uterus.

ovum
An egg or ovum is a female reproductive cell produced by the ovaries. After fertilisation by a sperm (a male reproductive cell), the two cells fuse together to form a single cell, from which an embryo develops.

Blighted Ovum: Also called an anembryonic pregnancy. A fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall, but fetal development never begins. Often there is a gestational sac with or without a yolk sac, but there is an absence of fetal growth.

blighted ovum - pregnancy loss before 8 weeks in which the egg is fertilized but never develops into an embryo.
miscarriage - early pregnancy loss, also called spontaneous abortion.

Blighted ovum - pregnancy hormones make your periods stop because an egg is fertilised and a sac develops, but the fertilised egg doesn't grow any further (also known as 'anembryionic pregnancy' or pregnancy without an embryo).

blighted ovum -- a condition where the egg creates a sac and the pregnancy seems to progress normally, but an ultrasound reveals that the baby never formed. See more under causes of miscarriage.

Blighted ovum: A fertilized egg that develops into a gestational sac, but no embryo is formed. May be due to the quality of the egg or fertilizing sperm itself or other chromosomal factors ...

BLIGHTED OVUM (EGG) - Rarely-used term for an embryo that attaches itself to the uterine wall but the embryo does not develop. The amniotic sac may only contain fluid and no fetal tissue when the miscarriage occurs.

You conceive when the ovum in your body gets fused with a sperm resulting in the formation of a zygote. The possibility of fusion of the ovum with a sperm is never greater than 3-5%. it is never nil as well.

Hormones stimulate the follicles in the ovary to release one (sometimes more) egg (ovum) as well as build up the lining of the uterus for implantation of the sperm.

The union of an egg (ovum) with sperm is called fertilization, or conception, and it is this union that produces the embryo.

An egg (or ovum) in one of the woman's ovaries starts to ripen and mature (2 eggs if she is preparing to have twins!) During this week her body starts to prepare for possible conception and pregnancy.

The embryo may be the result of any combination of donor sperm and donor ovum. With developing technologies have come confusing ethical and moral problems, and most state laws have not yet caught up.

The cells making up the ovum are beginning to differentiate and specialize in areas of development. Some cells will make up the embryo; others the amniotic sac and placenta etc.

The union of the sperm and the ovum . Synonymous with fertilization .
2. The onset of pregnancy , marked by implantation of the blastocyst into the endometrium .
3. A basic understanding of a situation or a principle.

Once fertilization takes place, the ovum continues on its way to the uterus, where it will implant in the uterine lining. During that trip thru the tube, the fertilized single cell egg, had begun dividing.

Although several sperm may penetrate the egg's outer layer, only one sperm will enter the ovum and fertilize it.

The spermatozoan fertilizes an ovum or various ova in the uterus or fallopian tubes, and this results in one or multiple zygotes.

Pregnancy begins when an egg (ovum) is released from your ovary about midway between menstrual periods, and is fertilised by a male cell (sperm). Fertilization usually takes place in the outer end of the Fallopian tube.

The egg (ovum) is then fertilized by the sperm which carries the other half of the child's genes. This union of the sperm and ovum is referred to as a fertilized ovum (or zygote) for the first two weeks. After that it is know as an embryo.

It is amazing that two little cells - the ovum and the sperm - can do their dance and bond most times with great accuracy and proceed to create a life. It is quite impressive that the process goes wrong only 15 to 20 percent of the time.

ovulation - release of the ovum (egg) by the ovary. Ovulation is the culmination of the menstrual cycle.

egg (eg) - Also called ovum. During ovulation, a woman's ovaries release an egg. When a woman's egg is fertilized by a man's sperm, the woman gets pregnant.
ejaculation (ee-jak-yoo-LAY-shuhn) - When sperm comes out of a man's penis.

Emergency contraception hormones may prevent fertilization by stopping the ovary from releasing an egg (ovum). They also make the fallopian tubes less likely to move an egg toward the uterus.

Each month, women experience ovulation - the phase of the menstrual cycle that involves one of the ovaries releasing an egg (ovum). It generally occurs about two weeks before your period starts.

XXX syndrome occurs in one out of 1000 female births, and appears to be the result of an extra X chromosome contributed by the mother's ovum (egg).

Fraternal twins share the same womb, but come from different ovum. They are as alike as any pair of siblings. On the other hand, identical twins come from the same fertilized ovum and consequently share the same genetic makeup.
