Postpartum hemorrhage
Postpartum bleeding (severe postpartum bleeding) is the loss of more than a pint of blood within the first 24 hours after delivering a baby. It is also called a postpartum hemorrhage.

Why is postpartum hemorrhage a concern?
Excessive and rapid blood loss can cause a severe drop in the mother's blood pressure and may lead to shock and death if not treated.
What are the symptoms of postpartum hemorrhage?

Fetal Distress:
Fetal distress can be caused by cord issues, medications in labor, infection and induction. This is one of the reasons that fetal monitoring is used in labor.

Postpartum Hemorrhage: Sometimes, after giving birth, new moms lose a large amount of blood resulting in postpartum hemorrhage.

Postpartum Hemorrhage
Although some bleeding is normal immediately after delivery, heavy bleeding or hemorrhage occurs in just 2% of births, most often after long labors, multiple births or when the uterus has become infected.

Postpartum hemorrhage: Bleeding greater than 15 ounces (450ml) at time of delivery. Pre-eclampsia-Combination of symptoms significant to pregnancy, including high blood pressure, edema, swelling and changes in reflexes.

Postpartum hemorrhage can occur anytime within the first 24 hours postpartum (this is the most critical time for the mother and she needs to be watched.

Postpartum Hemorrhage - Excessive bleeding in a woman following delivery. Although the conidtion is more likely during a cesaren delivery, it can occur during a vaginal delivery.
