Breech presentation is more common earlier in pregnancy and is found in about 10 to 15% of women with premature labor symptoms or preterm premature rupture of the membranes.

Presentation refers to the position the fetus takes as your body prepares for delivery, and it could be either vertex (head down) or breech (buttocks down). In the weeks before your due date, the fetus usually drops lower in the uterus.

Birth presentation, or Fetal Descent Stations in technical terms, is the name given to the position the baby is in at the time he moves into the birth canal. However, babies can change position several times before labor actually begins.

Fetal presentation
The part of the fetus that enters the birth canal first. When the head enters the birth canal it is called a vertex presentation. When the buttocks present first it is called a breech presentation.

Breech Presentation: This is where the baby lies with buttocks and / or legs at the lower end of the uterus.

Breech presentation is common in cases of placenta previa. Of course, he or she may turn to vertex at any time, but if the baby stays in a breech presentation, chances of a cesarean are quite high.

DANGERS OF A BREECH PRESENTATION

Breech presentation - your baby is upside down in the womb, so he or she would be born bottom first rather than head first. While you can give birth vaginally to a breech baby, it makes for a much more difficult birth that may require intervention.

Abnormal presentation of a fetus at delivery (e.g. breech position) is more common. Pelvic ultrasound, hysterosonogram and MRI testing may all assist in confirming this diagnosis. Keep in mind not to panic.
