Prostaglandins
A class of chemicals produced by the prostate and other parts of the body that can have various and powerful effects on the body. They were first discovered in the prostate gland , hence their name.

Prostaglandins -- Hormone-like substances found in men and women. It is hypothesized that prostaglandins secreted by active, young endometrial implants may interfere with the reproductive organs by causing muscular contractions or spasms.

Prostaglandins
Substances found in bodily tissues which are often responsible for the contractions of smooth muscles such as the uterus. Prostaglandins keep blood pressure low and influence hormone activity.

Prostaglandins - Hormones that are produced by the uterus to soften the cervix in preparation for a vaginal delivery. If labor needs to be medically induced, synthetic prostaglandins will be used to soften the cervix.

Prostaglandins
Hormones which ripen / soften the cervix to prepare for labour (present in semen). These are present in ‘prostin’ pessaries (tablets inserted into vagina, next to cervix), which are used to induce labour.

Prostaglandins are also involved in the development and clinical expression of pre-eclampsia. These prostaglandins are modulators of vascular smooth muscle tone and platelet aggregation (blood platelets sticking together).

Prostaglandins
a group of hormone-like chemicals that have various effects on reproductive organs; so named because they were first discovered in the prostate gland ...

The prostaglandins in the gels used to induce labour are very similar to hormones found in semen, so popular belief has it that making love can sometimes help. It's a lot more natural way to get things started if you can be bothered (we couldn't).

If the prostaglandins don't put you into labor, your caregiver will then administer a drug called Pitocin (also known as oxytocin). It's given through an IV and used to start labor or augment contractions you've been having on your own.

Medications (prostaglandins) to maintain patency of the ductus arteriosis may help stabilize a baby with hypoplastic left heart syndrome to some degree, but surgical management will be necessary within a few days birth.

helps maintain the pregnancy Prolactin - the pituitary hormone that in high amounts stimulates milk production Prostate gland - the male gland encircling the urethra that produces one third of the fluid in the ejaculate Prostaglandins ...

During ovulation, prostaglandins are released that cause contraction of portions of the fimbria, which connect to the ovary called the fimbria ovariaca, ...

Also, semen contains chemicals called prostaglandins which help to soften the cervix and prepare it for the baby's delivery.

Premenstrual syndrome involves inflammatory substances called prostaglandins.
How is the diagnosis of PMS made? - The diagnosis of premenstrual syndrome can only be made from the history.

There are chemicals called prostaglandins that normally are made by the lining when pregnancy does not take place, and these chemicals cause that part of the ovary making progesterone to quit; ...

for induction of labor were assigned randomly to receive either 50 micrograms of misoprostol orally every 4 hours as needed or treatment according to our established protocol (physician-chosen combinations of intracervical or vaginal prostaglandins ...

In pregnancy, prostaglandins have a role preparing the uterus and cervix for delivery in the last days and weeks of pregnancy. Prostaglandins are also involved in headaches, arthritis, and menstrual cramping.

at 40+3 they are worried about leaving him any longer, so tomorrow they will attempt induction with synthetic prostaglandins.

Prostaglandin gel/pessaries containing prostaglandins can be placed in the vagina to ripen the cervix. Your baby's heartbeat will be monitored for a while to make sure that he is not affected by the induction.

However, not only does this cause an excessive amount of prostaglandins, and their release into areas besides the uterus (i.e., the abdomen), but the endometrial cells do not always act “in sync' with the uterine ones, ...

Prostaglandins - These hormone-like substances are found in both men and women while sperm washing techniques remove prostaglandins during artificial insemination to reduce cramping in the woman's body.

Exposure to the prostaglandins in semen may cause contractions — which could be worrisome if you're at risk of preterm labor.
Sexually Transmitted Disease (you or your partner)
Problems with the cervix.

If your cervix shows no signs that it's ready for labor, your doctor may give you a drug containing prostaglandins (a key labor trigger), administered in a pill, cream, or gel. The administration of prostaglandins softens the cervix substantially.

There is a very small risk that using or vaginal prostaglandins, or Syntocinon (see below), may cause your uterus to become overstimulated or hyperstimulated (NCCWCH 2008a: 52).

Natural prostaglandins found in semen help to stimulate the cervix in and prepare it for delivery. Additionally, oxytocin released when the woman experiences orgasms can also trigger labor contractions.

Naproxen blocks the enzyme cyclooxygenase that makes prostaglandins, resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation, pain and fever are reduced.

Why? NSAIDs prevent the creation of prostaglandins, the hormone-like chemicals that cause swelling and increase pain. But that's not all that prostaglandins do. There are actually many different types of prostaglandins in your body.

Prostaglandins are found throughout the body, and the substance is believed to have some role in the beginning of labor. Why some women have infections without early rupture of membranes or preterm labor is unknown.

The penetration stimulates the lower portion of the uterus, releasing prostaglandins. Semen also contains prostaglandins, which helps ripen the cervix. Orgasm in a pregnant woman may also cause contractions.

Sometimes you may feel mild cramping after sexual intercourse due to the prostaglandins in semen. It might be mild and short-term; if you feel it for long-term, contact your consulting gynecologist.

Prostaglandins:
These substances are common in our bodies and are involved in the natural start of labour. As medications, they can be used to ripen the cervix (make it more favourable to induction), or to induce labour.

Sweeping of the membranes separates the amniotic membrane from the uterus enough so that the uterus starts making prostaglandins Opens New Window. This type of chemical helps trigger contractions and labor.

Breaking the Bag of Water (Amniotomy)

Since aspirin blocks the production of prostaglandins, taking aspirin during pregnancy - especially after 32 weeks - could trigger the baby's blood flow to be rerouted in the uterus. This could cause potentially fatal problems for the baby.

Female enjoyment creates the hormone oxytocin which can help ripen your cervix and get it ready for labor. A mans semen contains the hormone prostaglandins which can cause contractions.

Usually, as the end of pregnancy approaches, the cervix moves forward in the pelvis and begin to soften. If the cervix does not soften on its own, prostaglandins may be needed to ripen it to jump-start labor or to prepare for an induction.

SEMEN - Fluid of the male reproductive tract, containing sperm and a number of other substances such as water, simple sugars, alkaline chemicals, and prostaglandins.

As you approach term, the cervix progressively softens, shortens (effaces) and starts to dilate. This is what all those prelabour contractions are about. Also, your cervix releases some hormones locally, called prostaglandins.

Recent VBAC studies have shown three to five times more ruptures among induced mothers compared with those having spontaneous onset of labor, and the AAFP recommends prostaglandins and oxytocin (Pitocin) be used with great caution during VBAC.

Maternal stress may cause the release of a hormone called corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). CRH, which is produced by the brain and the placenta, is closely tied to labor. It prompts the body to release chemicals called prostaglandins, ...

NSAIDs reduce menstrual bleeding by decreasing the production of substances called prostaglandins. The usual recommended dose of ibuprofen is 400 mg every 6 hours.

You might also have contractions after reaching orgasm because your body produces oxytocin and prostaglandins that are also present during childbirth.
- Try to make time for yourself.

It is hypothesized that prostaglandins secreted by active, young endometrial implants may interfere with the reproductive organs by causing muscular contractions or spasms.
