Pudendal block - This procedure anesthetizes, or numbs, the area around the vulva to reduce pain during labor and delivery.

Pudendal Block
This is a localised pain relief option where the anaesthetic is injected into the vagina that numbs the vulva, vagina and the perineum.

Local Anesthesia (Pudendal Block):
Local anesthesia is a numbing medicine injected in the vaginal and rectal areas by your obstetrician at the time of delivery.

(0.25%) Women who elected epidural anesthesia for pain relief (N = 155) were matched with women who had either local or pudendal anesthesia [pudendal blocks can also interfere with pushing]. Both groups were instructed to push at full dilation.

You will be given pain relief, which may be a local injection inside the vagina (called a pudendal block) or epidural or spinal anaesthetic.
