This is commonly known as the abortion pill. It works by blocking the action of progesterone, which is vital for maintaining a pregnancy.

A medicinal abortion can be done up to 63 days after conception. The abortion pill, mifepristone (also known as 'RU-486'), works by blocking the hormone progesterone.

They have no moral objection to preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg. The morning-after pill is not to be confused with RU-486, an actual abortifacient which ends a pregnancy by inducing a chemical abortion of an implanted embryo.

It is far safer and better to medically terminate this pregnancy using RU-486 ( mifegest) and prostaglandins, as this leaves the uterine cavity intact.
